DJ Primo
Dj De La was raised in typical Cuban heritage, he was surrounded by musicians and thespians. De La was basically thrown into singing and conga sessions as far back as he can remember. It is how he credits his early understanding of musical notation by ear. His family was shocked when they first saw him grab the microphone on his own and mimic their Punto Guajiro sessions. It is the home grown music of the Western and Central provinces of Cuba, developed around the end of the 18th century. On his 12th birthday his aunt threw a party for him at her condo in westchester. Upon his arrival he heard a loud thumping bass sound coming from another condo in the next building over. De La was attracted to the music and fun so he wondered from his family and followed the quad and simply just walked inside. They were jamming to songs like Roll It Up My Nigga, Shake What You Got feat. Breezy Beat MC and groups like MC.A.D.E, Run DMC, 2 Live Crew and MC. Shy D. At this party is where De La first witnessed scratching and was drawn to the DJ booth. Nobody really noticed him until he went up and asked if it was ok to try to scratch.
